TSMC ramps up 16nm FinFET production

TSMC has commenced risk production of its 16nm FinFET process, with volume production scheduled for late 2014.

The foundry's newly appointed co ceo Mark Liu announced earlier this week that the company was looking to ramp up 16nm production ahead of schedule, originally planned for Q1 2015. Speaking at TSMC's annual supply chain management forum, Liu also announced the company's plans to enter volume production of SoCs built using 20nm process technology from January 2014. According to a report from DigiTimes, the foundry expects its sales to enjoy a double digit increase in 2014, after registering 17 to 18% growth in 2013. TSMC's 28nm processes will generate revenues as high as $5.4billion this year, Liu said.
