TI expands 'industry's lowest power' 16bit dsp range

Texas Instruments has added two new devices to its 16bit dsp C5000 platform, which it claims to be the industry's lowest power processor platform.

According to TI, the TMS320C5514 and TNS320C5515 provide a performance of 120MHz - a 20% performance increase on its earlier devices. TI says that increased integration allows users to maintain low power levels while adding features such as additional encode and decode algorithms in voice, audio and portable communications applications, as well as more real time diagnostics in medical end equipments. The devices integrate power management features, such as on chip low drop out regulators, dynamic voltage and frequency scaling. The C5514 features three on chip LDOs – one for each dsp core, usb and analogue subsystems, sdram and mobile sdram suppoty for power sensitive applications. The C5515 features an additional 64Kb on chip memory – 320Kb in total – a point programmable fft hardware accelerator and an integrated lcd display controller.
