SSD market set for record growth

Total worldwide shipments of solid state drives (SSDs) are expected to increase by 300% over the next four years, according to IHS iSuppli.

The market research firm estimates that the technology will account for more than a third of the computer storage market by 2017, putting it on the map as a promising substitute for hard disk drives. IHS says total shipments will jump from 31 to 227million units over the next four years, on the back of growing demand for ultrabooks and other slim laptop models.
