Renesas unveils Cortex-A9 base mpu range

1 min read

Renesas Electronics says its forthcoming family of ARM based microprocessor units – the RZ family will be targeted at applications requiring data processing at rates in excess of 300MHz. Amongst these will be human machine interfaces and networking.

The Cortex-A9 based range will include two series. The RZ/A series will focus on HMI applications and support displays with resolutions of up to xga. The first product in this series will integrate a 400MHz Cortex-A9 core and up to 10Mbyte of on chip ram to provide high performance, lower power consumption and system cost reductions. It will also include hardware acceleration for the Open VG 1.1 standard to allow GUIs to be implemented easily. Meanwhile, the RZ/N series will focus on connectivity. The first product in this range will integrate an 800MHz Cortex-A9 core, gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.0 to provide a range of interface functions to connect with IT equipment. The first RZ part to be sampled will be a member of the RZ/A family manufactured on a 40nm process. Renesas expects samples to be available towards the middle of 2013.
