Range Rover to feature reconfigurable cluster

Visteon has developed a reconfigurable cluster platform for the latest Range Rover and the system will be provided as a standard fit on all models. The design is said to be based on a new architectural approach to manage the complexity of the increased graphics content and display management.

The system replaces the conventional instrument cluster with a reconfigurable 12.3in tft display. This presents 'on demand' information via virtual gauges, graphical displays and a message centre. "The new display technology used by the 2010 Range Rover is a major advance. It gives us tremendous flexibility in presenting information, so that the driver gets precisely the data he or she requires, in all driving conditions," said Nick Rogers, Range Rover's chief engineer for new vehicle architecture. The cluster was developed in conjunction with Land Rover by Visteon's engineering teams in Chelmsford, with support from development teams in the US and software development from Visteon Software Operations.
