Quantum research gets £270m boost

The government has announced a five-year, £270million investment in quantum technology.

Speaking ahead of today's Autumn Statement, Chancellor George Osborne described the technology as "an area of cutting edge scientific research that has the potential to deliver huge benefits to the UK economy". The money will be used to support a national network of five research centres, covering areas such as quantum computing, sensors and secure communications. "Science is a personal priority of mine," Osborne continued. "This government will continue to prioritise the long term investments that are needed to compete in the global race."
