Qualcomm unveils operator and OEM modem partners

Qualcomm has announced 5G commercial link-ups with 19 network operators and 18 infrastructure OEMs.

The company’s Snapdragon X50 5G modem has been selected for use in live, over-the-air mobile 5G NR trials with a large number of global wireless network operators in both the sub-6 GHz and millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum bands.

Among the operators taking part in the trials are: AT&T, BT, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, KT, LG U+, NTT DoCoMo, Orange, Singtel, SK Telecom, Sprint Corp, Telstra, TIM, Verizon Communications, Vodafone, EE and T-Mobile.

Theese mobile 5G NR trials will use Qualcomm’s 5G mobile test platform and smartphone reference design, which incorporate the Snapdragon X50 chipset.

“2018 will be a big year for Qualcomm Technologies and the mobile industry overall as we work to execute on the agreed upon 5G NR specification,” said Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm Incorporated. “These trials demonstrate how we are working with global operators to fuel growth and innovation in the mobile industry and make 5G a reality by supporting a large number of expected commercial launches in 2019.”

According to Qualcomm 18 OEMs will be looking to next year to launch standard-compliant 5G NR mobile devices using the X50.

They include: ASUS, Fujitsu, HMD (Nokia), HTC, inseego, LG, NetComm, Netgear, OPPO, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony, Telit, Vivo, WNC, Wingtec, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
