In a change of marketing tactics, Qualcomm is making the newly launched Snapdragon 600E and 410E processors available through distribution. Recognising the need for long term availability, Qualcomm says customers will be able to source the parts ‘for a minimum of 10 years’. Initially, they will be supplied through Arrow Electronics, although the company says a global network of distributors will be created.

The processors, along with their global availability, is said by Qualcomm to be an important extension of the Snapdragon embedded product portfolio.

“Snapdragon is a powerful and versatile processor with many potential applications in a variety of IoT applications,” said Raj Talluri, senior vice president, product management, with Qualcomm Technologies. “We can now offer this technology to a much wider range of customers with the additional benefit of long-term support and availability.

The Snapdragon 600E features a 1.5GHz quad core Krait 300 CPU, the Adreno 320 GPU and a Hexagon DSP. It supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity.

The Snapdragon 410E is a 1.2GHz quad core processor, said to offer high performance with low power consumption. The company says it is suitable for IoT applications in smart homes, digital signage, medical equipment and industrial automation.

David West, senior vice president, Arrow Electronics, commented: “Arrow looks forward to offering Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon processors and complementing them with the full range of parts and engineering services we can offer to help customers through commercialisation.”
