Q2 operating profit for NXP

NXP Semiconductors has announced a second quarter operating profit compared with a loss last year. It reported Q2 income from operations as $93million against a $217m lost last year, while sales reached $1.2billion compared with $903m a year ago.

The Dutch chipmaker, which had a difficult IPO debut in the United States this month, broke even at the operating level in the first quarter and said it continued to see healthy demand from a broad base of customers. However it added that it was receiving mixed signals from a few clients, indicating slowing demand. NXP said overall demand, bolstered by increased design wins, was greater than current capacity and, although additional capacity was being readied, it will have a limited impact in the third quarter. In a statement, NXP said: "Our expectation is that total comparable sales will be relatively flat on a sequential basis, and will show an increase of 20-25% on a year over year basis."
