A glut of smartwatches has hit the market recently, including Samsung's <a href="http://www.newelectronics.co.uk/electronics-news/samsung-beats-apple-in-race-to-launch-smartwatch/56079/">Galaxy Gear</a>, Sony's Smartwatch 2 and Qualcomm's <a href="http://www.newelectronics.co.uk/electronics-news/qualcomm-unveils-toq-smartwatch/56102/">Toq</a>.
Now, as part of its bid to enter the wearable technology space, car manufacturer Nissan has taken the wraps off its Nismo smartwatch - a device it claims is the first to connect driver and car.
The Nissan Nismo connects to a car's on-board computer system via Bluetooth LE and a smartphone app, enabling it to measure and record biometrics such as the wearer's heart rate and temperature.
The watch also allows users to keep an eye on their car's performance - including average speed and fuel consumption. Up to date road and traffic information can also be pushed to the device, as well as social media message notifications.
Available in a three different colours, the watch has a battery life of around a week, and can be controlled by two buttons on the screen.
The ultimate aim, according to Nissan, is to develop a device that can spot fatigue by monitoring a driver's concentration levels, emotions and hydration levels.
