MWC: ARM's big.LITTLE concept attracts five new customers

ARM's big.LITTLE processing technology has been adopted by five more companies, bringing the total number to seven.

ARM announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) today that Renesas, CSR, Samsung, Fujitsu Semiconductor and MediaTek would all launch systems based on big.LITTLE in 2013. The technology, which combines a Cortex-A15 and A7 processor, is said to save up to 70% of processor energy consumption in common mobile workload tasks. Simon Segars, ARM's president and ceo said: "By reducing processor energy consumption by up to 70% on common workloads, big.LITTLE technology enables users to do more with their smartphones for longer. "As smartphones and tablets continue to evolve into users' primary compute device, our partners are increasingly looking to ARM for innovations to help them deliver performance as well as the always on, always connected service their customers expect."
