Microsoft's Azure growth slips

In a first for Microsoft's flagship cloud computing business Azure, it has reported sales growth of under 50%.

Microsoft reported revenue in its Intelligent Cloud segment rose 17% to $13.4 billion, with 47% growth in Azure.

Despite the performance of Azure, Microsoft said that total revenues rose 13% to just over $38 billion in the fourth quarter ended June 30, beating estimates of $36.5 billion.

This strong performance was powered by gains in the company's More Personal Computing unit, which has benefitted from more people globally turning to its products in order to work and game remotely during coronavirus-induced lockdowns.

Revenue from the unit, the largest by sales, rose 14% to $12.9 billion, beating analysts’ estimates of $11.46 billion. The unit includes Windows software, Xbox gaming consoles, online search advertising and Surface personal computers.

Microsoft reported that its commercial cloud operations surpassed $50 billion in annual revenue for the first time this year.
