Microchip buys embedded software tool developer

Microchip Technology has acquired Australian tool developer HI-TECH Software for an undisclosed sum. The company already supplies compilers for Microchip’s range of microcontrollers and digital signal controllers.

“With the addition of the HI-TECH Software portfolio, Microchip now offers a complete suite of highly efficient compilers supporting all Microchip devices, from the smallest 8bit PIC10 to the largest 32bit PIC32 mcu,” said Derek Carlson, Microchip’s vice president of development tools. “The acquisition also extends Microchip’s leadership in compiler technology by providing users with the option to develop their C code using the Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.” HI-TECH maintains a range of compilers, primarily for Microchip, but also for others. The company will now concentrate on Microchip tools, but will support existing agreements. According to HI-TECH ceo Clyde Stubbs: “Microchip customers can expect to be offered development tools that are more powerful and easier to use than anything previously available for any microcontroller.”
