Mezzanine board connects Altera and Xilinx platforms

An open source interface board, designed to connect field programmable rf transceiver (FPRF) systems directly to fpga boards, has been launched by non profit organisation Myriad RF.

Called Zipper, the mezzanine board allows the FPRF boards to interface with both Altera and Xilinx development platforms – and enables direct connection with a pc for control and calibration. The resulting system is said to enable wireless systems of almost any size and complexity to be easily created on any wireless standard or frequency. The Zipper board was created by Lime Microsystems and Azio Electronics. It's design files can be downloaded in KiCad format free of charge and under liberal open source licensing terms. Lime has also released a new version of the control utility for use with the board, which allows for the set up and calibration of the LMS6002D transceiver, along with configuration of the board.
