Low voltage antenna to foil car thieves?

Specialist antenna manufacturer CTi has launched an active GPS antenna that operates from any voltage from 1.8 to 6V dc. The antenna is believed to be the first capable of operating from such a low voltage, making it suitable for automatic vehicle location and tracking applications.

According to CTi, because the GPS-UNI can run from a low voltage supply, the vehilce to which it attached can continue to find and report its location until its battery is virtually exhausted – allowing more time for the vehicle to be recovered. GPS-UNI works with any standard 1575.42MHz GPS receiver. An integral low noise amplifier consumes 100mW and provides a forward gain of 26dBi.
