Antenna modules for location capability

Two GPS and GNSS antenna modules have been announced by Antenova, which claims both provide an easy way to add location capability to very small consumer devices.

The M10578-A2 module operates with GPS, with an update rate ranging from 1 to 5Hz. Meanwhile, the M10578-A3 operates with GPS, GLONASS, BEIDOU and Gallileo, updating at rates of up to 10Hz. Both measure 9 x 9 x 1.8mm and feature a MediaTek processor.

Performance is said tohave been enhanced through an internal self-generated orbit prediction feature, whereby two GNSS systems are accessed simultaneously to give a faster time to fix. A second low noise amplifier boosts low powered satellite signals.

The modules are built on FR4 substrates, with a high density, multi layered design placing critical RF functions in the best position for location finding and performance.
