Intel puts the brakes on 14nm Arizona fab

The slumping pc market has forced Intel to delay the opening of its new chip facility in Arizona.

Intel had planned to spend $5billion on the 14nm fab, known as Fab 42. However, with capacity utilisation under 80%, the firm has decided it would be better to upgrade its existing fabs rather than spend money on completing the new one. Speaking to local paper the Arizona Republic, Intel spokesman spokesman Chuck Mulloy said Fab 42 "will be used for future technologies at a future date".
