Intel launches more Atoms

Intel has added the E600 series to its Atom line up. According to the company, the E600 series features a 45nm processor core, accompanied by a 512k level 2 cache, a 24k data cache and a 32k instruction cache.

Use of the PCI Express interconnect is said to allow the device to be linked more easily with peripherals. Meanwhile, integration of the processor, along with memory controllers, graphics and audio and video encode/decode is said to make board design simpler and to speed product development. The range includes four variants, with each available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Models run at clock rates from 600MHz to 1.6GHz and consume from 2.7 to 3.9W. * Meanwhile, Intel also outlined an Atom/fpga combo chip code named Stellarton, which will feature an Altera fpga.
