Industry’s smallest rf IDIC package claimed by Atmel

1 min read

Measuring just 2 x 1.5 x 0.37mm, Atmel's low frequency rf IDIC module is being touted as the smallest available in the industry today.

The 363bit read/write transponder IDIC (ATA5577M1) is a high volume, low frequency rfid device designed for small tag applications, standard key fobs or clamshell cards for access control solutions. According to Atmel, it features increased reliability/robustness, a small XDFN package and simplified production. The module's two coil wires can be directly soldered onto the two pads of the package and mounted or glued onto the antenna coil. The direct mounting and small packaging is said to allow for extremely small end products as the resulting rfid tag size is determined by the size of the coil. The package can also be soldered on a standard pcb, in combination with a pcb mounted antenna. The incorporated ATA5577 chip is optimised to provide a manufacture programmed and locked unique ID to enable the traceability of the product, preventing cloning or counterfeiting of the tag IC.
