imec debuts 25Gb/s silicon photonics platform

Belgian research institute imec has taken the wraps off a new silicon photonics platform for high performance optical transceivers.

The iSiPP25G provides 25Gb/s performance for integrated photonics circuits for telecom and datacom industries. The first tape-in is scheduled for November, with the first wafers out in June 2014. imec and its associated laboratory at Ghent University will be offering the platform for passive silicon photonic components via ePIXfab and its Europractice IC service. Philippe Absil, program director at imec, said: "Companies can benefit from our silicon photonics capability through established standard cells, or explore the functionality of their own designs in Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) runs. "Through our MPW offer, fabless R&D teams can access a cost efficient silicon photonics solution, with state of the art performance, design flexibility and superior CD and thickness control."
