Imagination puts MIPS, Ensigma business units up for sale

Imagination Technology has decided to put its MIPS and Ensigma business units on the market in a move intended to concentrate its resources on PowerVR and to strengthen its balance sheet.

According to Imagination, the MIPS business unit has a strong position and has completed deals with major customers during the last financial year. In a trading statement, Imagination says MIPS has ‘continued to see design wins in networking, routers and DTV/STB and has made good progress in the mobile LTE modem and industrial IoT markets’.

Ensigma, which licenses connectivity IP for mobile computing, unmanned systems and IoT applications, has seen revenues more than double in the first half of Imagination’s 2017 financial year.

Meanwhile, it has commenced a dispute resolution procedure under its license agreement with Apple with a view to resolving the differences between the two companies about ‘alternative commercial arrangements’.
