Cambridge based electronics firm HiWave Technologies has announced that its patented BMR speaker drivers and audio amplifier ICs have been adopted by AQ Audio to create what is claimed to be one of the world's most advanced battery powered AirPlay speakers.

The AQ SmartSpeaker includes two HiWave HiBM36S12 BMR speaker drivers and a HiWave HiAS2002 twin channel amplifier IC. The 24W speaker delivers over 10 hours of playback in AirPlay mode from a single battery charge cycle; and more than 20 hours when connected via a 3.5mm jack. HiWave's patented low power amplifier IC is designed to consume 1/20th the power of comparable Class D amplifiers at typical listening levels and significantly extend battery life in wireless speakers. The company's patented BMR speakers deliver a full audio frequency range to give a warmer sound across a wide audio dispersion angle for room filling audio. James Lewis, HiWave's ceo commented: "The AQ SmartSpeaker is a fantastically simple concept that's been very well executed. It exploits the benefits that AirPlay brings and combines this with efficient technology and high quality playback to give you a high quality speaker that you can easily control and position anywhere in the home."
