Lantronix has announced the launch of what it claims to be the world's smallest embedded device server, the xPico.

The chip sized networking module was launched at Embedded World and is the first product in the company's new line of embedded device servers. According to Lantronix, the device is designed for quick integration with minimal engineering effort and has a chip sized footprint of 24x16.5mm. The xPico enables Ethernet connectivity on virtually any device with a serial interface and allows remote access to device data via its embedded device server application, web server and full IP stack. Billed as the world's smallest embedded device server, xPico can be incorporated in designs typically intended for chip solutions and negates the need for software development. "We believe the flexibility, features and form factor of our new xPico firmly positions Lantronix for success as a provider of design in alternatives to chip solutions," said Mak Manesh, vice president of product management for Lantronix. "With our built in, industry proven device server application already deployed in several million devices, coupled with the ability to replace chip based solutions with virtually no need to write a single line of code, the xPico marks another milestone in delivering technologically innovative products designed to solve specific customer needs in growing markets." xPico begins volume shipping in the early second half of 2012.
