Electronics student creates buzz with online design resource

A 17 year old electronics student who wrote a program to help with his electronics A Level has received thousands of downloads from all over the world - and is currently attaining around 150 per day.

Sam Fisher originally wrote the Circuit Diagram program as he needed to include diagrams in the write up for his electronics AS-level coursework and was unable to find a suitable program to do so. Unlike similar resources, Fisher's free open source program can be saved as a vector image or PNG. Having uploaded the program for his fellow students to download, electronics design students from 105 countries also began downloading the program and feedback suggested that Circuit Diagram not only looked better than other resources, but was much easier to use. Currently, almost 5000 students have now downloaded the resource and Fisher is now developing an upgraded version which enables users to create their own components to use in their diagrams. According to Fisher, Circuit Diagram is the only program to offer this functionality. "I only expected the other boys in my class to download the program, but have been surprised by the number of downloads, with visitors coming from 105 countries," Fisher told New Electronics. "I've had a lot of positive feedback and suggestions for components, with people saying it's very easy to use with an intuitive interface. It's targeted at students studying electronics courses, electronic engineers, people who create circuits as a hobby, and anyone else with a need to make circuit diagrams." Fisher is about to enter the upper sixth form at the City of London School, studying maths, further maths, electronics and physics.
