SparkFun’s Arduino Pro 328 and Arduino Pro Mini 328 are low-profile boards that allow engineers to prototype a design for an AVR microcontroller and the Arduino integrated development environment. Both boards are available in 5V/16MHz and 3.3V/8MHz versions. Pinout pads, rather than headers, connectors or wires to be placed in any orientation.
Meanwhile, SparkFun RedBoard products, pictured, use a standard Arduino form factor. Mouser says those using the RedBoard will find knowledge and resources online that support prototyping. Female headers are said to reduce the need for soldering.
