Cambridge Design Partnership announces new rugged GPS mapping device

Cambridge Design Partnership has announced a durable handheld GPS device with integrated mapping capabilities and two way terrestrial and satellite wireless communication.

The Communicator system, which works with GPRS, 3G, TETRA, LTE and Iridium based networks, also features Bluetooth for connection to legacy modems and is capable of data messaging and emergency distress signalling. Points, lines and areas of interest can be exchanged between devices and updated in real time and users can be assigned a specific square on a mapped grid. Cambridge Design Partnership says this could make search and rescue far more efficient and coordinated as well as help cut costs. The handset includes a 3.5in high resolution, high contrast day/night touchscreen and large button controls. The software can be adapted to make it compatible with any mapping system or Android platform, while bespoke products can be designed for different applications. Mike Beadman, partner at Cambridge Design Partnership, said: "Communicator builds on CDP's experience in creating designs such as the ruggedized Satmap 10. Next generation functionality, including powerful scripting software and two way data communication, offers a new solution for a variety of industries and professions." Cambridge Design Partnership is now looking for OEM partners who would be interested in adopting this design.
