Booming smartphone demand to drive analogue ic market

The rising demand for smartphones and tablets will guarantee expansion for the analogue ic industry over the next few years, according to a report by GBI research.

The report predicts that the general purpose analogue ic industry will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 9%, from a 2012 value of $20.41billion to $31.35bn by the end of 2016. The application specific analogue ic industry is expected to increase its sales revenue from $27.47bn in 2012 to $38.15bn in 2016, with a CAGR of 6.8%. The Asia Pacific region could play a vital role in this growth due to increases in both consumption and manufacturing, with large wafer manufacturing plants to be developed over the next four years by companies such as Intel.
