AMS in talks with Dialog over possible merger

Analogue IC specialist AMS is in talks to buy German chip maker Dialog Semiconductor.

The combined company would have a joint market value of about $5billion, reports suggest. "AMS and Dialog confirm that the two companies are in preliminary discussions regarding a possible merger of equals of AMS and Dialog Semiconductor," said AMS in a statement. "These discussions are at a very preliminary stage and there can be no certainty that a transaction will be forthcoming." Under UK takeover rules, AMS will have to announce whether it will proceed with an offer by 24 July. Representatives from both companies have declined to comment further.
