Altera issues 14nm design software for Stratix 10 FPGAs

Building on the success of earlier customer benchmarking results, Altera has released early access design software for its 14nm Stratix 10 FPGAs and SoCs.

Claimed to double the performance of 28nm FPGAs, the design software incorporates the company's Stratix 10 HyperFlex architecture, Intel's 14 nm Tri-Gate process and a Hyper-Aware design flow. The latter includes a Fast Forward Compilation capability that pinpoints performance bottlenecks and provides step by step performance improvement recommendations. Altera says this give customers the opportunity to maximise overall design performance and achieve rapid timing closure. "Users are now able to unlock the performance in their designs by taking advantage of the innovative capabilities of the HyperFlex architecture to reach breakthrough levels of performance not possible in previous generation FPGA architectures," noted the company's Jordon Inkeles.
