UK Electronics Alliance Seminar – Anti Counterfeiting Forum

1 min read

As part of its strategy to help UK companies address the growing threat of counterfeit components entering the UK electronics supply chain, the UK Electronics Alliance, in conjunction with the Component Obsolescence Group, Electronic Components Supply Network and Intellect, is organising a seminar to be held on Thursday 15th October at the Heathrow Windsor Marriott Hotel.

Industry experts estimate that counterfeit electronic components entering the UK may be costing the sector as much as £1bn annually. Many of the counterfeit components currently being detected are destined for safety critical systems but, regardless of their destination, the consequences of counterfeit components being built into electronic equipment are severe. The seminar is scheduled to run from 10.00am with breaks for refreshments and a buffet lunch and, provisionally, will include presentations providing information on: • The size and nature of the problem • Work being undertaken by the semiconductor industry to combat counterfeit semiconductors • Current supplier standards and certification systems and how a coordinated approach in the UK will help component suppliers and users • Setting up internal procedures to safeguard against counterfeits infiltrating the manufacturing process • Best practice techniques to identify counterfeit components • The new Anti Counterfeiting Forum website • Lessons learned and activities in the pharmaceutical sector that could benefit the electronics sector • How Government is responding to the problem • Issues and trends that will influence how the problem will affect the sector and how the sector will need to respond in the long term There will also be an opportunity for delegates to raise questions, get further guidance and to provide feedback on what further action needs to be taken.
