Vote Manufacturing

1 min read

Just a few years ago, the feeling was that the UK needed to plan for a post industrial economy based on financial services. But, after a period of enormous economic change, manufacturing has never been more important.

With economists and politicians of every type agreeing that manufacturing is the key to a balanced and successful economy, the stage is firmly set for the discussion of how we get to that point. The Future of UK Manufacturing Summit, which took place on 4 March in London, started that discussion. At the meeting, industry leaders and manufacturers identified five critical areas in which politicians of the next government most urgently need to take action. These points are: * Action on long term leadership * Action on incentives and taxes * Action on engineering skills * Action on energy costs * Action on culture change The Vote Manufacturing campaign, launched by Findlay Media with the support of the ERA Foundation and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, will drive these priorities home to all candidates in the forthcoming General Election. The campaign urges candidates to back their doorstep talk with appropriate, decisive and immediate actions. The Vote Manufacturing campaign also features a petition on the Downing Street website, which you are encouraged to sign. The Vote Manufacturing campaign is looking to develop wide support for UK Manufacturing and to deliver a universal message from thousands of manufacturers and manufacturing suppliers, their employees and families, who all want – and need – manufacturing restored to its proper place at the top of the UK economy. UK manufacturing employs 3million people directly, with 2m more providing services for manufacturing. With their families, that's 10m voters – more than enough to shape the outcome of the next election. To join the Vote Manufacturing campaign, go to the Vote Manufacturing website
