Plastic, but not fantastic

Almost five years ago, the Government of the day rolled out a strategy document – Plastic Electronics: A UK Strategy for Success – which outlined its ambition for the UK 'to build on its position as one of the leaders in this sector'.

At the time, the market was estimated to be worth $120billion by 2020. But a report just released by Allied Market Research suggests that figure might take a bit longer to reach. Its prediction is the market will be worth $80bn by 2020, with organic displays representing 65% of that revenue. Plastic electronics appears to be one of those technologies where expectations were high when they first appeared, but the time taken to commercialise them means reality is quite different.
