Intel says no to evolving MeeGo for html5

In a blog posted on the MeeGo website, Imad Sousou, director, Intel Open Source Technology Center, has said goodbye to Intel's involvement in the MeeGo platform.
Saying that much had been learned from the MeeGo project, the shift in focus is now to assist MeeGo users to transition to the new Tizen operating system.
However, MeeGo does have its fans. In response to Sousou's announcement, a number of disgruntled posters asked why the platform could not simply be evolved to include an html5 based application, or if the MeeGo code could be donated to other organisations such as Oracle or IBM.
But it appears that Intel is happy to drop the platform. Initially established in February 2010 with Nokia and Samsung Electronics, Nokia's then ceo, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said that the MeeGo operating system would 'create an ecosystem that is second to none'. "Simply put, MeeGo heralds a new era of mobile computing," he observed. By September, Stephen Elop had taken over the role and Nokia dropped its involvement.
For a while, Intel stayed committed to MeeGo but, with the success of devices such as the iPad and iPhone, the demand for html5 clearly needed addressing. Now MeeGo has morphed into Tizen and the first devices are expected to appear by next summer.
As Souosu says: "We believe the future belongs to HTML5 based applications."
