Electronics Design Show set to meet UK engineering needs

1 min read

When Findlay Media – New Electronics' parent – announced plans last year to launch the Engineering Design Show, there were doubts expressed about its chances. The reason? One widely held misconception is that engineers don't attend exhibitions and conferences any longer. If they don't go to shows, what's the point of holding another one?

While potential exhibitors embraced the concept of the event with a passion – exhibition space sold out several months before the event – the challenge was to make the event attractive to engineers from a wide range of disciplines. Would we do it, the doubters asked? The Engineering Design Show – which took place on 10 and 11 October at Coventry's Ricoh Stadium – proved the doubters wrong. Findlay Media set an attendance target for the event and almost hit it on the first day. By the end of day two, attendance was 60% more than the target. The mixture of a high level technical conference, 'how to' workshops and a range of exhibitors proved attractive to engineers from across the UK and has convinced Findlay Media to expand its horizons. Next year, we'll be launching the Electronics Design Show alongside an expanded Engineering Design Show. Our research amongst New Electronics' readership has helped us to define the event. What did the research tell us? Engineers like high value conferences, so there will be 16 conference sessions over the show's two days. Engineers also like practical workshops, so there will be 20 workshops. And between attending the conference and workshop sessions, they want to be able to discuss the latest technology with leading suppliers. Electronics events in the UK have been in decline for some years. With the Electronics Design Show, we're looking to buck that trend. We hope to see you in Coventry next October.
