When Displays are manufactured the touch screen or glass is layered onto a module, which leaves a tiny air gap. In outdoor environments or where high brightness prevails this can be a problem. A problem which is caused by the light reflecting when it travels through the various mediums. This refraction through the layers impairs the intensity and clarity of the end image thus lowering the brightness and therefore the readability.

This is where optical bonding comes into its own.By bonding the display module and glass together with a transparent adhesive, the air gap is filled, which means there is no refraction and more light is able to get to the surface of the screen so that the image is brighter and more able to be read.

Optical Bonding is therefore important in making screens sunlight readable, but it also makes the screen more physically durable. The additional of the layer of the adhesive absorbs shock giving high durability which is particularly important when used in areas of high usage or harsh environments.It also prevents dust and liquid from getting between the layers.
