ARM Module Combines Low-Power with Low-Cost

The AT-501 system on module is based on Atmel’s low-power SAMA5D3 processor which uses an ARM Cortex-A5 core, to provide a full-featured Linux system consuming 450mW or less, in a tiny 68 x 47mm SODIMM package, priced from £27.

The module features 256MB RAM and Flash. SD Card, USB, I2C, SPI and UARTs are all provided along with CANbus, Gigabit Ethernet and up to 120 GPIOs.

The AT-501 is one of a wide-range of system-on-modules available now from Direct Insight.

The module provides benchmark low-power capability in an ARM Cortex-A series class system. Based on an Atmel SAMA5D31 or D36 system-on-chip with ARM Cortex-A5 core clocked at 536MHz, the new SoM also sets new standards for affordability, with an entry price of £27, for a SAMA5D31-based version with 256MB RAM and 256MB NAND Flash (1000 unit price).

In addition to low maximum power consumption, the AT-501 supports suspend and sleep modes which offer very low power drain and rapid resume to suit a variety of battery-powered use cases. The module operates from a single 3.3v supply.

A wide range of interfaces are available, including Gigabit Ethernet, second 10/100 Ethernet, SD Card, up to 6 UARTs, 3 USB ports, I2C, SPI, CANbus and analog inputs as well as up to 120 GPIOs.

The system-on-module employs the popular SODIMM200 form factor and measures just 68 x 47mm. The CB-20 development kit provides a fully working development environment kit including baseboard and optional 7” touch screen, audio, and is supplied with a full-featured Debian Linux BSP installed, offering Qt support as standard.

AT-501 is available in both industrial and commercial temperature ranges. Visit Direct Insight’s AT-501 Atmel SAMA5D3 module pages for further information.
