Innovative industrial enclosures from ROLEC

How ROLEC transformed the market for standard electronic enclosures

Daring to be different ROLEC, the industrial enclosures manufacturer, is raising the bar and transforming the industry.

Thirty years ago the standard metal enclosures market was dominated by prosaic diecast boxes that showed little consideration for ergonomics and even less for aesthetics.

Then ROLEC stepped in. And everything changed.

The German company had already enjoyed success with its aluNORM (1987) and EMC-shielded conFORM (1998) enclosures but in 2003 ROLEC launched aluCASE: a ‘go anywhere’ range that boasted innovations including hidden fixings, ‘lid closed’ installation, recessed lid, lid retaining straps and integrated hinges.

Being able to install the enclosures with the lid closed protects the electronics, vital for challenging conditions.Twenty seven sizes are now available (including four new larger sizes launched last year).

ROLEC did not stop innovating. Its aluCLIC (2008) cases featured click-to-fit installation for fast fitting and easy maintenance. The lid screws and fixing bracket are all concealed under the base.

For 2010, ROLEC launched aluPLUS which offered all the advantages of aluCASE but in standard industry sizes – making the enclosures even more cost effective.

Next came aluDISC (2010) – the world’s first round standard aluminium enclosures for industrial electronics.

Their wristwatch style shape combines the circular face required for pipework and other ‘round’ applications with the flat surfaces needed to fit cable glands and connectors.

Latest innovations include aluSMART – a screw-fit version of aluCLIC. Again the fixing bracket and screws are hidden below the base and the cases can be installed ‘lid closed’.

However, this time the enclosure is secured to the bracket with four screws – providing extra security.

But not every ROLEC enclosure will be fitted to a wall, machine or bulkhead: the company also has four ranges of handheld cases.

Among them is the comfortable handCASE. Type R features an all-over lid recess while Type S is aimed at displays. Both have two battery options (4 x 1.5V or 2 x 9V).

ROLEC also offers six different command enclosures for mounting on suspension arms. Brand new to the range is commandCASE which is available in three versions: Standard (hinged lid, snap closures);Version I (hinged lid, screw fixing) and Version II (screw fixed lid with retaining straps).

New commandCASE goes particularly well with ROLEC’s new profiPLUS suspension arms – a smart modular system in two tube sizes (50 mm and 70 mm). Load capacity is up to 50 kg.

The common thread running through all these products is the material – aluminium – but ROLEC also manufactures enclosures from stainless steel, polyester, ABS, polycarbonate and UV-stable LURAN.

ROLEC also offers customisation of all its products plus fully bespoke enclosures.
