RS connectivity devices for EVs

RS Components has introduced a portfolio of “high-power” connectors from Amphenol, designed for connecting power cables used with electric vehicle (EV) drive systems.

Designed to be a safe and reliable solution for servicing EVs, the MSD series of receptacles and plugs is said to offer a tool-free solution for disconnecting an internal high-voltage battery pack, while delivering short-circuit protection. The device uses a two-stage lever system to open the HVIL (high-voltage interlock) circuit prior to contact separation. All high-voltage conducting surfaces on the receptacles are touch-proof to IP2XB.

A second range available is the Excel-Mate HVSL (High Voltage Safety Lock) series of plugs and receptacles, designed for EV applications including power and signal interconnect. The third series is the Excel-Mate HVPT series, which aims to provides a reliable and economical high-voltage pass-through connection.

Also launched is the Excel-Mate CCS Combo, which is said to meet IEC62196-3 and enable the charging of EVs with AC or DC power. Both the CCS Combo inlet and the plug are equipped with a temperature sensor and a coloured LED to monitor charging status and temperature. The Combo is available in 60, 125 and 200A options in any required cable length.
