Microsemi adds multi port additions to its PoE midspan range

Microsemi has announced two multi port additions to its 60W PoE range. The 6 and 12 port midspans are said to optimise deployment flexibility and support gigabit switching, as well as having high efficiency four pair powering. The company claims the range is the 'industry's first' fully IEEE 802.3at standards compliant high power PoE solutions series to include four pair powering and gigabit switching support.

The PowerDsine 6 port PD-9506G and 12 port PD-9512G midspans are designed to deliver up to 60W of power over all four pairs of ethernet cabling, enabling power dissipation to be cut in half when compared to conventional two pair solutions, and providing 15% less energy consumption. The devices also include a gigabit interface to support high power devices such as PTZ cameras and thin clients, and implement 2-event classification as specified in the IEEE 802.3at specifications for communications with connected devices. The PowerDsine 9500G range has been designed to power high power network devices over ethernet cabling and eliminate the need for wiring to external ac power sources. The multiport midspans also feature a proprietary power feed technology that is said to support all legacy PoE devices.
