Linear unveils 60V led controller with internal pwm controller

Linear's new LT3761 60V dc/dc controller is designed to operate as a constant current source and constant voltage regulator.

Its internal pwm dimming generator is said to make it ideal for driving high current leds, but it also has features making it suitable for charging batteries and supercapacitors. The device has an input voltage range of between 4.5 and 60V. It uses an external N channel mosfet and can drive up to fifteen 1A white leds from a nominal 12V input, delivering in excess of 50W. In addition, it incorporates a high side current sense, enabling its use in boost mode, buck mode, buck boost mode or SEPIC topologies. Linear says efficiency's are as high as 94% in the boost topology, eliminating the need for external heat sinking.
