High frequency power inductors

Coilcraft has introduced the XEL40xx Series of low-loss power inductors at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC 2016) in Long Beach, California.

The XEL40xx Series is claimed to have low inductance values that have been optimised for high frequency applications. They are also said to offer DCR as low as 2.5mO and ultra-low AC losses, resulting in high efficiency across a frequency range from 2 to 5MHz. They are offered with current ratings as high as 28.5A, and their soft saturation characteristics can withstand high current spikes.

XEL40xx Series inductors measure 4.0 x 4.0 x 1.2mm, suiting them for IoT and portable device applications. The devices feature RoHS compliant tin-silver over copper terminations and are halogen free. The XEL4014 and XEL4020 models are qualified to AEC-Q200 Grade 1 standards (-40 to 125°C ambient), making them suitable for automotive and other harsh-environment applications.
