electronica - PCB design and data management tech to be released

The upcoming release of PCB design and data management technologies in Altium Designer 17 and Altium Vault 3.0 has been announced. The platforms are both scheduled to release in November as a free upgrade to all customers.

The Altium Designer 17 features technology that is said to be geared toward strengthening the efficiency of today’s electronics design process. Several new features include: ActiveRoute to design printed circuit board layouts with guided routing technology; Dynamic Copper to save time and to modify copper polygon shapes on printed circuit boards; and Back Drilling to reduce signal integrity disturbances on high-speed designs with complete control over drill hole specifications.

With the Altium Vault 3.0, engineers can supposedly leverage technologies to gain more control over their data management workflow, with new ways to search, synchronise and manage their design data.

Features include: Streamlined Project Releaser to add verified project snapshots with included design variants for fabrication and assembly; Customised Item Manager Automatching to synchronise projects and define parameters to update unmanaged assets with verified design data; and Expanded Templates to keep design projects standardised with templates for projects, draftsman, scripts, and BOM reports.
