Efficient PMIC halves input voltage

Dialog has released the DA9312, a power management IC suitable for applications supplied directly from dual cell (2S) stacked lithium battery packs or from input voltages range from 5.5 to 10.5V. It integrates three independent power supplies: two DC/DC buck regulators, each delivering up to 5A; and what is said to be the industry's first inductorless 10A power converter.

The DA9312 enables 2S battery-supplied applications to be powered with improved efficiencies and requiring less volume compared to conventional high voltage direct conversion solutions. The fully integrated power converter halves the input voltage without the requirement for inductors and provides flat efficiency over a wide range of output current.

The two buck regulators each deliver up to 5A with a configurable output range of 2.8 to 5.35V. Switching at 1.5MHz allows low profile external components to be used. Additionally, the buck converters can be merged to operate in dual phase mode, providing a single output for load currents of up to 10A.

Other features of the DA9312 include integrated over-temperature and over-current protection, an I2C interface and a configurable general purpose I/O. The device operates over a temperature range of-40 to 125°C.
