A new development ecosystem has been introduced by STMicroelectronics to support the STM32L4 series of MCUs. According to the company, the offering includes prototype boards for all budgets and STM32Cube software support.

Available boards range from the fully featured Evaluation Board (STM32L476G-EVAL) priced at $289 to the $19.90 Discovery Kit (STM32L476G-DISCO). The latter board features a MEMS microphone, motion sensors, D/A converter, a 96 segment LCD and 16Mbyte of QSPI flash. Users can fine tune hardware and software on the fly throughout development.

Also available is the STM32 Nucleo board (NUCLEO-L476RG), at a cost of $10.32. The board has Arduino Uno headers for access to extension shields and integrates the ST-Link debugger/programmer. Both the Discovery and Nucleo boards provide direct access to mbed online tools.

A full STM32Cube software suite is available, including the STM32CubeMX configurator and initialisation code generator. In addition, the STM32CubeL4 embedded software provides a hardware abstraction layer, application examples and new low layer APIs.
