ConnectZED rf modules

AND's ConnectZED rf modules are designed for use with embedded applications requiring low data rates and low power consumption. The Dual Profile variant is targeted at applications which require a bridge between in home control and energy monitoring.

According to AND it offers 'distinct time saving and cost benefits'. ZigBee Application Profiles, defined by the ZigBee Alliance allow products from multiple vendors to interoperate, through the definition of devices clusters. Clusters consist of sets of data and commands which support typical product applications, together with the messaging scheme to be used for communication. While profiles have tended to be deployed independently of each other, with SE being focused on electric utility applications and HA catering for device communication & control in the home, there is increasing demand to overlap the two. Steven Kear, programmes director at AND Technology Research said: "The whole ethos behind AND's ConnectZED ZigBee modules is 'a smarter way to get connected'. The complexities involved in radio frequency wireless communications can take this type of technology out of the realms of many design engineers. ConnectZED offers a general purpose, inexpensive, cost effective device which can be slotted in as a component within any design. "Further, preloaded with standard clusters from both SE and HA, the 'dual profile' ConnectZED module simplifies the process of 'overlapping' these two application areas. Decreasing the complexity of data interchange and increasing the interconnectivity between the profiles offers significant benefits. The dual profile module, is not only a neat, simple solution, but provides a means of intelligently sharing information enabling some really interesting communication and control possibilities."
