3A step down converter offers 96% efficiency

The buck regulator is said to feature up to 96% efficiency, a quiescent current of 25A and excellent light load efficiencies. It is designed to deliver up to 3A of output current at output voltages down to 0.6V, while operating from an input voltage of 2.7 to 5.5 V over a -40°C to 85°C temperature range. Fixed output voltage versions are available in 50mV increments or, alternatively, the output voltage can be set from 0.6 V to the input voltage via an external resistor divider. The AS1328 incorporates a Softstart feature that is available with a 'power okay' function or 'low battery' detection signal. House in a 3 x 3mm TGFN package, the device features a fixed switching frequency of 1.5MHz and incorporates internal compensation components to reduce board space. Target applications include portable devices such as medical instrument, mobile internet devices and tablet pcs. The converter is also suitable for applications requiring high currents such as solid state drives, set top boxes, base stations, telecom and network equipment.
