32bit SAR A/D has additional no latency output

A high precision 32bit successive approximation register (SAR) A/D converter from Linear Technology is said to simplify hybrid conversion system design by providing a 32bit low noise digitally filtered output as well as a 14bit 1Msample/s no latency output. According to the company, since these outputs are generated from a single 32bit SAR A/D core, their accuracy and speed are matched, even as the operating temperature, supply and stress vary.

The LTC2508-32 is said to be suited to applications that require precision measurement and fast signal tracking. With a guaranteed maximum linearity of 3.5ppm and up to 145dB of dynamic range, the LTC2508-32 can make precision measurements in the presence of noise.

The high speed output provides a 14bit differential and 8bit common mode representation of the input signal, suiting control loop designs with early detection mechanisms. The device is said to further improve system accuracy by directly digitising the input signal over the full input range with more than 120dB of common mode rejection.

An integrated digital filter can be configured to optimise the 32bit high accuracy output’s noise performance and bandwidth, to a maximum 145dB of dynamic range at an output data rate of 61sample/s. The integrated digital filter offers a minimum attenuation of out-of-band noiseof 80dB. Meanwhile, the reduced data rate of the digitally filtered output eases communication with slow processors.

Drawing 24mW from a single 2.5V supply, the LTC2508-32 is supplied in a 7 × 4mm 24-lead DFN package.
