16bit a/d converters offer 40% power reduction

Intersil has expanded its range of high speed, low power, analogue to digital converters for communications and data acquisition applications, with the introduction of the 16bit ISLA216P series.

Designed using the company's proprietary FemtoCharge technology, the series features sample rates up to 250Ms/s with power consumption of 786mW. The mixed signal/analogue specialist claims this is 40% less than competitive devices. As well as offering pin compatibility with all other devices in the series, the converters are designed to significantly reduce heat dissipation and cooling requirements, enabling customers to lower overall system costs and increase reliability. The series requires only 200 microseconds of wake up recovery time from low power modes to maximise the utility of its power down features and provides multi channel support so that multiple a/d converters can be precisely time aligned. Intersil says the range is ideal for advanced applications that require multiple input channels, including radar array processing, broadband communications, data acquisition systems, software defined radios, and communications test equipment.
