120W DC/DC converters for harsh environments

12V, 24V and 28V output HQA DC/DC converters have been announced by TDK. Packaged in a ruggedised quarter brick form factor, the encapsulated HQA120 models can deliver 120W output power and its input ranges from 9 to 40V. These 89% efficient converters are suitable for use in COTS, communications and industrial equipment.

The HQA120, qualified using methods consistent with MIL-STD-883 and 202, offers two screening and operating temperature options. The M-Grade has functional testing in cold, hot and room ambient temperatures, and a 96 hour burn in with 10 cycle temperature testing. The S-Grade has functional testing at room temperature and a standard burn in period. The full load operating temperature for the M-Grade is -55 to 115°C and -40 to 115°C for the S-Grade.

Two baseplate mounting versions are available. The flanged format measures 60.6 x 55.9 x 12.7mm, with the non-flanged following the standard quarter brick format and measuring 60.6 x 39 x 12.7mm. Negative logic remote on/off and remote sense is provided.

All models are fully regulated, have a constant switching frequency for easier system EMC integration and do not use opto-couplers in the control loop. Full auto-recovery protection is provided and the output can be adjusted ±10% or turned on or off remotely.

Safety certification includes IEC/EN 60950-1, UL/CSA 60950-1 with CE marking for the low voltage and RoHS2 directives. Input to output and input to baseplate isolation is 2250V DC.
