Waveform generator offers ‘highest performance’

Looking to help designers cope with increasing data rates and signal complexity, Tektronix has launched a range of arbitrary waveform generators that run at up to 50Gsample/s.

The company adds the AWG70000 series can also provide long waveform memory and deep dynamic range. Lawrence Wilson, product marketing manager for arbitrary waveform generators, claimed customers want to use commercial products in their tests. "There is a lot of data that needs to be processed, which means the device needs to generate clean, wideband signals and long unique signals." He says three factors influence performance: how fast can the signals be generated; how clean are they; and how long are they? According to Tektronix, alongside the high sample rate, the AWG70000 has a 16Gsample waveform memory and a vertical resolution of 10bit. It says this allows the device to produce fast, clean signals that can be routed through a receiver or other device under test for long periods. Two variants are available. The AWG70001A is a single channel device sampling at up to 50Gsample/s. With a maximum output frequency of 20GHz, the device has a resolution of 10bit and can store 2Gsamples, expandable to 16Gsample. Meanwhile, the AWG70002A is a twin channel unit sampling at up to 25Gsample/s with a maximum output frequency of 10GHz. It has a 2Gsample memory per channel, expandable to 8Gsample.
